Do Kwon Arrested at Podgorica Airport
Last week, Do Kwon, the founder of TerraForm Labs, was captured at Podgorica airport following requests from both South Korea and the United States to extradite him.
Do Kwon Due For Long Prison Stay
After ten days of quarantine, criminals are transferred to a general population facility as confirmed by a local criminal defense lawyer. This means that Do Kwon may be facing an extended prison stay in one of Montenegro’s notorious prisons.
Inhumane State of Montenegrin Prisons
In 2020, human rights activists published research about the unacceptable living conditions in Montenegrin prisons which condemn their penal system for not meeting basic living standards – with around ten detainees kept in an eight square meter room with half not even having a bed to lie on.
Competition between US and South Korea
Justice Minister Marko Kovac confirmed that both South Korean and United States authorities had submitted documents requesting Do Kwon’s extradition however added that competition between them might be intense for getting hold of him.
Criminal Investigation Launched By Singaporean Authorities
Singaporean authorities have also launched their own criminal investigation into the shady Terraform Labs founder however they have yet to request his extradition unlike other countries who have done so already.
