Benefits of tax holiday in doubt

More evidence from local store owners that  the sales tax holiday doesn't have a big impact in the sales they make annually:

Although sales spike considerably during the two days consumers receive a break from the state's 6.25 percent sales tax, business owners say the event has little impact on their bottom line... At Gariepy Furniture in Leominster, owner Steve Gariepy said customers have continued to shop since the sales-tax holiday was announced last week, but they're not buying. Before the sales-tax holiday was first implemented in 2004, Gariepy said September, October and November were his three best sales months.
