Understanding Tax & Budget

Our state confronts the challenge of how to pay for the essential things we want our government to do. Meanwhile we grapple with structural budget deficits at the state and local level. We can expect significant tax policy changes or additional cuts will take place in the next several years – but what form will they take? Will they provide for a fair, adequate, and stable tax system? And who will shape the debate about what “fair, adequate, and stable” really means?

One Massachusetts is asking every resident to ask themselves how they should participate in the inevitable public debate over how to build a fair and stable tax system that provides enough revenues to sustain healthy thriving communities.

The ONE Massachusetts learning community is beginning to understand and share it’s knowledge of how state tax and budget policy works, how it’s formulated, and who wins and who loses under the current system.

The ONE Mass budget and tax policy literacy trainings are a strategically coordinated effort to empower community activists and ordinary people to communicate forcefully and effectively about tax policy and promote a positive understanding of government.

One Massachusetts is committed to a district based grassroots training program that will empower local activists to communicate forcefully and effectively about tax policy and promote a positive understanding of government.

Our primary training partner on understanding tax and budget policy is the Mass Budget and Policy Center.
